Panel One: Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability Strategies

All over the world, companies are integrating principles of sustainability in their management strategies, product designs, facility construction and operations, personnel development, and community engagement, in response to the global call for sustainable development. Investors increasingly look at companies’ environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance, while consumers continue to drive a growing demand for green products and preference for socially responsible brands. Adopting the “triple bottom line” approach to corporate management is no longer perceived as just “the right thing to do”; rather, it has become the imperative business model for a company to sustain itself and continue to be relevant in the future. In this session, Summit delegates will hear from some of the top corporations in the country – their strategies and challenges, and the inspiring success stories in their respective sustainability journeys.

Panel Two: Green Buildings and Sustainable Communities

Studies have shown that buildings are a major contributor to climate change, due to the high energy consumption that makes our living and working spaces more comfortable. Water usage, indoor air quality, and solid waste and sewage generation from buildings also raise important environmental and health concerns. At the same time, buildings and communities now have to be designed to withstand the disastrous effects of climate change as manifested through hot summers, strong typhoons, and torrential rains that lead to flooding. These issues have led to a boom in green building construction worldwide. While architects continue to push the envelope in green building design, urban planners strive to make our communities more sustainable, with lesser environmental impacts and greater climate resiliency. A shining example is the “live-work-play-learn” concept, which has become a hallmark feature of sustainable communities here and abroad. In this session, Summit delegates will learn about the latest trends in green buildings and sustainable communities from some of the nation’s top industry players.

Panel Three: Social Entrepreneurship

The challenges that will define the century – climate change, natural resource depletion, population growth and rising income inequality—cannot be addressed without a holistic understanding of business, government, economics and environmental science. Social entrepreneurs are a growing group of responsible global citizens, equipped with a unique set of tools, that have developed innovative business solutions to address these social and environmental needs. Social entrepreneurship requires a structured understanding of the challenges society faces, design parameters wherein solutions can be explored, curiosity, creativity, and a drive towards taking action. Conventional capitalism, with unaccounted for externalities, is on its way out and companies that are doing better business by embracing the "triple-bottom-line" are on the rise. Pragmatic, sustainable business systems that foster inclusive growth, empower communities, and regenerate (as opposed to deplete) the environment, will be market leaders in the future. Achieving transformative change through market-based problem solving is no short order, especially for those in mostly underserved populations. On this panel, we will learn from an incredible group of people, some of the most successful social entrepreneurs in the country.

Panel Four: Innovations in Clean Fuels & Renewable Energy

Majority of carbon emissions (the main cause of global warming) and air pollution problems come from our ever-increasing usage of fossil fuels for our transportation and power needs. The recent COP21 Paris Climate Conference yielded a unanimous global commitment to mitigate climate change by transitioning to “clean energy” and reducing our dependence on “dirty” fossil fuels such as coal. The most important innovations in clean energy technologies have been focused on the development of low-carbon alternative fuels for the transportation sector and the advancement of renewable energy systems for power production. In this session, Summit delegates will learn from industry experts in the fields of clean fuels and renewable energy, sharing their knowledge on the latest industry trends and innovative technologies.
